Charlie Puth has given credit to Swifty for inspiring him to release his new song, “Hero”. The singer-songwriter took to Instagram on Tuesday to thank the pop star for giving him a shout-out on her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, which was released in April.

In his post, Charlie revealed that Taylor’s shout-out, in which she sings, “We declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist,” spurred him to release “Hero.”

“I’ve never put out a song like this before,” the 32-year-old musician wrote. “It’s very different for me, but I want to thank @taylorswift for letting me know musically that I just couldn’t keep this on my hard drive any longer.”

Charlie also shared the meaning behind his forthcoming single, set to be released on Friday.

“My new song ‘Hero’ is about when you see someone you love hurting themselves, ruining the things in their life that are good, but you just can’t save them,” he explained.
