‘Lay Low’ by Tiësto – Single Rating: 3/5 ★★★☆

Grammy award winning DJ Tiësto first burst into the music mainstream ten years ago with his European-wide hit ‘Red Lights’ which reached number 6 in the U.K chart. Since then, the appointed ‘Godfather of EDM’ has enjoyed a further three additional U.K top 10 singles. ‘Lay Low’ could well be his fifth.

‘Lay Low’ is the latest single to emerge off Tiësto’s 7th studio album ‘Drive’, arriving on the 24th February.

Hook

It’s rolling bass line, customary to many of  Tiësto’s hit tracks accompanies deep house and soul-tinged vocoder-esque vocals, with the most obvious highlight and hook to the tune being the chorus. This sounds like a very good all-girl choir drenched thick in layers of reverb and echo – a choral earworm if ever there was one. Clocking in at just over two and half minutes. Also, with the track in full swing you want it to carry on for longer.

After a couple of listens through, you can already pre-empt that ‘Lay Low’ is going to be a huge hit on the Vegas club scene. Mostly, around early March when spring break in the U.S begins. (Tiësto is to play six nights in sin city within the first three months of this year). But to some this may scream ‘summer anthem’. Also, one cannot help thinking that ‘Lay Low’ could be better off arriving in time for prime Ibiza season. The summer vibes are great on the track – ‘Lay Low’ screams beach club.

Tiësto‘s forthcoming album will include recently released collaborations with both Tate McRae and Charlie XCX. ‘Lay Low’ will also sit alongside these nicely. The Dutchman’s output is truly staggering. Lay Low will be his 110th single that Tiësto would have either released himself directly or been featured in. Long may it continue.
