In an interview with Rolling Stone, Billie Eilish, the 22-year-old chart-topping sensation, revealed her ongoing struggle with fear and anxiety in navigating her skyrocketing fame. Despite her global success, the young artist admitted to being “afraid” to venture out in public, citing the overwhelming pressure of constant scrutiny.

“I’m afraid,” Billie confessed to Rolling Stone. “For a f**king good reason. I’m afraid of people, I’m afraid of the world. It’s just scary for somebody like me, and even if it’s not scary, it means being on and being vulnerable and being seen and being filmed and whatever.”

However, Eilish also shared her determination to confront her fears head-on. “But with that all in mind, I have been choosing to do the thing that scares me more. I am biting the bullet and existing in the world for once.”

Amidst her struggles, Eilish reminisced about a pivotal piece of advice from acclaimed musician John Mayer, who offered guidance during the early stages of her career back in 2019. Mayer, 46, empathized with Eilish’s feelings of overwhelm and reassured her that the intense spotlight wouldn’t last forever.

“I remember him saying, ‘It feels like it’s going to feel like that forever, but it will go away, and in a way you want to take it in because it will cool off, and people won’t act like she’s Bigfoot when they see her,'” shared Eilish, reflecting on Mayer’s wisdom. “That really stuck with me because I was like, ‘No, it is going to feel like this forever, and everywhere I go, people are going to look at me like they just saw a ghost.'”

Eilish’s revelation sheds light on the internal battles faced by many artists thrust into the limelight at a young age. Despite the challenges, her commitment to facing her fears and embracing vulnerability serves as an inspiration to fans worldwide.
