Permission To Dance by BTS – Single Rating: 4/5 ★★★★

South Korean group BTS are back with a new song called ‘Permission To Dance.’ The K-pop group picks up just where they left off, smashing through the commercial pop noise with style. Additionally, the song, which Ed Sheeran co-wrote, is potentially their most catchy yet.

It’s clear why Ed let BTS use the song rather than utilise it for his own backlog. Why? Because it’s cheesier than most of the songs he releases, yet it’s perfect for the K-pop mega-group. It does, also, have a feel-good flow that leaves an impression, and the summer dance movement is immediately enticing, and the BTS boys rise to the occasion with vim.

There is a musical resemblance to the One Direction era. This soundscape also pervades the vocal delivery, with BTS delivering vocal hooks reminiscent of the One D group. You’ll also most likely hear tiny elements from the soundtracks from the smash-hit film The High School Musical if you listen closely to the new tune. Intentional? It’s not entirely evident, but there’s a clue here and there.

Individual Liberty From BTS

BTS’ vocals are on point, demonstrating why they are the hottest boy band on the earth right now. Their story is also considerably empowering, and they advocate for individual liberty. They don’t have to be concerned about being true to themselves, and they use the phrase “permission to dance” as a metaphor for autonomy.
