‘Holier Than Thou‘ by Biffy Clyro – Single Rating: 4/5 ★★★★
Biffy Clyro deliver the rock goods with their latest stadium-filling cover of Metallica’s, ‘Holier Than Thou‘. The new cover version is the remedy for anyone who despises the cheesy pop similarity that dominates most mainstream channels.
The Scottish rockers remain loyal to the original with a similar structure and melody. But they still add their own unique zeal to the production. So much so, if you give this track to someone who isn’t familiar with the Metallica original, they’ll most likely assume it’s an original Biffy treasure. Furthermore, the band rise to the occasion with might, and they deliver superior performances; which will even make the Metallica members exultant.
Energy
Simon Neil’s vocals are in top form. Moreover, his energy levels are at an all-time high, with his charisma as strong as it was when Biffy initially stormed the rock landscape. Ben Johnston on the drums, meanwhile, does not hold back with an explosive high-octane drum performance that has the heels tapping in a frenzy. James Johnston, likewise, shocks the speakers with one of the crunchiest and eargasm bass riffs to emerge in recent years.
The new cover is from Metallica’s upcoming album Blacklist, which will be out in September. It contains 53 musicians and celebrates Metallica’s impact on the music business during their stay. All revenues from the album are to go to charity.
