Kicking off as you would expect, Jason Derulo rises with his signature ‘Jaaaason Derulo’ line. Many are unsure why he does this; perhaps it is to remind people they are listening to his music? Who knows.
A quirky jazzy piano arrangement also appears in the overture, and it brings a refreshing new angle. It is not a sound which is comparable elsewhere and it gives the track instant distinction from the opener. Jason is the first up with a memorable vocal delivery. Moreover, his trademark quality leaks out with potency. Adam Levine does not arrive until a little later in the track and he has more input in the final sections.
Melisma
The brilliant component about this track is that it more than just a collab. It is almost like Jason Derulo, and Maroon 5 have two separate tracks but they glue them together to make one song. Furthermore, the first half is very Derulo; it could be just his song. But then on the flip side, the other half of the track switches to a Maroon 5 vibe and the Derulo aura is gone until they both synergise again towards the latter with both delighting with catchy melodies and piercing melisma.
Lyrically, the pair talk about someone who has beauty, richness and pretty much everything. The lyrics also speak about the other person, potentially having a better lifestyle than Jason and Adam? Not being funny, but who can have a better lifestyle than two of the most prominent musicians on the planet?
