Happy For You‘ by Lukas Graham – Single Rating: 4/5 ★★★★

Lukas Graham lives up to expectation with his new release, ‘Happy for You‘ piercing the heartstrings once again. Emotionally rich, this unique gem speaks candidly about heartbreak and the harsh truths of seeing ex-lovers move on in life while barely moving on within oneself.

Opening the new release is a chilling wobbly electric synth hook ahead of a piano arrangement that sounds somewhat similar to Lewis Capaldi. But, this is no shock given that Lukas and Lewis often closely align themselves with one another; both sharing similar techniques. Nevertheless, Lukas soon gets down to business with his unique touch rising out of the mixture.

Prevalent Poetry

Vocally, Lukas is in flying form, and he probes deep, leaving an indent with his impressive and prevalent poetry. Moreover, he opens up about losing somebody who he once cherished more than anything. So much so, once they are gone, Lukas feels like he is roaming around space; he feels lost not having his other standing alongside. As he progresses, he reflects on looking at his ex-lover having a great time with a new flame. It hurts him tremendously, and although he says he is happy for them, he isn’t happy within himself and is looking for something to save him from his inner turmoil.

The music is equally empowering as the vocal delivery, with the sounds rising in the closing stages. Furthermore, the mix comes together like an adhesive in the concluding passage. Here, a myriad of harmonic arrangements leap out of the speakers. It is emotionally cogent, and the bold and melancholy flow leaves a memorable impression.
