English two-piece rockers, Royal Blood, are stuck in oblivion according to their new release. ‘Limbo‘. The single is from their upcoming third studio album, ‘Typhoons‘, which is to drop worldwide on the 30th of April.

The rock gem is becoming an instant anthem and, within seconds, we get a festival season feel with the power gushing out with a rocky summer edge. It is difficult not to envision hearing this in a field with thousands of other music revellers, even if it has been over a year since such occurred.

Unorthodox

Limbo‘ starts with a synth overture with an electronic soundscape which is slightly unorthodox for the Brighton duo. However, they soon get back to regular business with an omnipotent first verse that hits hard with vigour. Furthermore, the drums hit with thunderous bite, as you would expect from Ben Thatcher. Also, frontman Mike Kerr proves infallible once again with a mesmerising vocal performance.

The chorus is as catchy as ever, with a melody that gets stuck deep inside the soul. However, it draws close comparisons to the lead hook on ‘Faded‘ by ZHU. Is this intentional? It is most likely not, but it is uncanny how similar both melodies are when playing them side by side, which we did. Nevertheless, the rocky elements which accompany the hook on ‘Limbo‘ keep it in its own corner, and the band do push through with distinction as the track progresses. So much so, Royal Blood try something new with an elongated finale towards the latter, and it pays off with memorability.
