London based singer-songwriter Million Miles today releases ‘Something Good’, the second offering from her forthcoming EP, out in November.
The finely tuned single follows the success of previously released ‘Honey’, which garnered huge praise from both UK press, particularly CLASH who said her “refreshing approach makes heartbreak sound oh-so-soulful”, as well as receiving strong ongoing support from US radio (KCRW & KUWR), and the hugely popular ‘Ice Cream & Cigarettes’, which not only shot to the top of the Spotify US Viral Chart, but has now surpassed 1.5 million plays on the streaming platform.
As with many great songs, there was no illustrious plan behind single ‘Something Good’, it was created unassumingly with just piano. This stripped back minimalistic approach combined with beautifully optimistic lyrics see Million Miles’ (born Sophie Baudry) rustic yet refined songwriting approach elevated to new heights.
Speaking on the new music, Million Miles says…
“It’s about being excited for something new to happen, for a new person to come into your life, or a new job, waiting to open a new chapter while looking back at yourself and your journey so far”.
As her assumed name suggests, Million Miles is well travelled. Born and raised in France, she spent her early years gigging across the city of Paris, until at the tender age of 16, Sophie took it upon herself to leave home on what could be considered a soul searching mission. From Paris, she moved to Boston (studying at Berklee College of Music) and onto New York City, where she worked as a recording engineer and session musician, before she finally found a long-term home in London. Then on a whim, Sophie decided to high-tail it to Nashville. It was here that she had the accessibility to truly hone in on both developing her artistic intent, as well as the craft of her creative songwriting.
Born into a musical household where the likes of Marvin Gaye, Bill Withers and Carole King would be on heavy rotation, it’s easy to see why this budding chanteuse gravitated towards a life of music from such an early age.
With a sound tailor-made for the more stripped-down and intimate settings, you can catch Million Miles playing at the House Of St Barnabas on October 23rd.
He discovered the gem when he was 12 years old and still has it now, claiming it to be why he fell in love with music. He likes to play disc golf when he's not writing about music. He is a one-of-a-kind individual who is always the first to bust out his air guitar on the dance-floor.
