‘Yeah, I Like You’ by The Goo Goo Dolls – Single Rating: 4/5 ★★★★☆
Since forming in 1986, the New York band has come a long way in terms of music creation. Also, they shine again here to the delight of their committed fans while attracting new admirers to join in the celebration. It is evident that the band had a great time recording this one, and the production is brimming with genuine enthusiasm that makes you feel happy the second it gets underway.
The track kicks off with the band’s signature sound on the acoustic guitar. But, the vibe immediately changes once John Rzeznik delivers a hair-raising vocal performance. His words also encourage thought as he analyses contradiction and considers paradoxes in life, such as when someone pretends to be busy but actually seems bored or when someone professes to be confident but actually feels insecure.
Arguably the band’s biggest hit to date is ‘Iris’. But this track has all the characteristics to become a newfound favourite, despite itbeing on a very different emotional level. The drums strike with vehemence. Also, they create a solid foundation for the myriad of sounds which emerge as the track progresses.
