What Do You Enjoy Most About Being A Musician?

I have always been a performer in one way or another, first as a TV presenter, then as an actress in a theatre in Moscow. In that period of my life I used to write and record my own songs as a hobby, signing with friends at karaoke for fun. Since moving to the UK I have devoted most of my time and energy to developing my skills and career as a musician. It has been an interesting Odyssey, from a hard rock to a more mainstream rock band, from gypsy soul to jazz cabaret. I have enjoyed the sense of engagement that rehearsals and performing involve, the education that working with songwriters and fellow band members has provided. I consider myself very much a novice, each experience a new one that widens my interest and deepens my desire to become technically more proficient and better able to express myself. It is the sense of constant evolution, of discovering new sounds and rhythms, that I enjoy.

Which Track Of Yours Means The Most To You?

It is a track that I have yet to release, “When You Were Near”. The track is my first attempt to put in music my memory of my parents and friends who are no longer with us. It reflects on the pain of losing somebody you love, and how memories of them provide a source of light in life.

In terms of my already released tracks probably –“Strangers” is a significant track for me as it was the first song where I made the music arrangement myself. The lyrics, the idea that as humans we are not strangers, is very close to me.

The First-Ever Gig You Played, Can You Remember It? How Was It?

If I am talking about gigs in the United Kingdom then it was in Camden at The Monarch. I remember I sang I Love Rock and Roll, feeling very proud of myself…until I watched and heard the video of the gig…it was total cacophony!

What Do You Think Is The Key To Success As A Musician?

Be yourself, love what you are doing, and always keep developing your skills. Good contacts helps a lot as well.

If You Wasn’t A Musician, What Job Would You Be Doing?

I would be a police officer. I love civil order and the idea that the police defend it. And I like the idea of wearing a uniform…
