Shakira has shared some behind-the-scenes details about her first world tour, the 2001 Tour of the Mongoose. Despite its massive success, Shakira confessed that the tour left her with a substantial financial loss.

The “Hips Don’t Lie” hitmaker disclosed to Sean Evans during an episode of Hot Ones that the production costs for the international spectacle went way overboard, primarily due to a colossal, metallic cobra that dominated the stage. “That cobra cost like a million dollars to produce, and then taking it on the road was so expensive,” she explained.

Even though the tour was a smashing success, selling out venues worldwide, Shakira found herself at a loss due to the extravagant expenses associated with the production. “At the end of the tour, I lost money – and it was one of my most successful tours,” she lamented, highlighting the irony of the situation.

Reflecting on her early career, Shakira also opened up about another aspect that makes her cringe: her singing. Despite her immense talent and global acclaim, it’s refreshing to see Shakira’s honesty about the challenges and setbacks she faced, even during the peak of her career.

Fans have flooded social media with messages of support and admiration for Shakira’s transparency and resilience. Despite the setbacks, Shakira continues to inspire millions with her music and unwavering dedication to her artistry.
