In a somber announcement that has reverberated through the music world, it has been confirmed that Shane MacGowan, the iconic frontman of The Pogues, has passed away at the age of 65. The singer-songwriter breathed his last in the early hours of Thursday morning, surrounded by his wife, Victoria May Clarke, and his grieving family.

A heartfelt statement posted on The Pogues’ official social media accounts, on behalf of Victoria May Clarke, Shane’s sister Siobhan, and his father, Maurice, expressed the profound sorrow at the loss of a musical legend.

“It is with the deepest sorrow and heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of SHANE MACGOWAN,” the statement began. “Shane died peacefully at 3 am this morning (30 November 2023) with his wife Victoria and family by his side. Prayers and the last rites were read which gave comfort to his family.”
