Folk-pop musician, Ervin stopped by for a chat!

Colby: What Do You Enjoy Most About Being A Musician?

Ervin: Performing is very satisfying. There have not been too many opportunities to do this over the last 2 years, but hopefully things will pick up. That said, money is tight, and people may have more important things to spend their money on. I also enjoy writing new songs.

Colby: Which Track Of Yours Means The Most To You?

Ervin: She Never Made Old Bones (to be released before the end of the year). My wife died in 2017 and this song reflects on that and other injustices. Despite the subject matter, it is a great song!

Colby: The First-Ever Gig You Played, Can You Remember It? How Was It?

Ervin:  My first ever gig was singing at Camden Town Hall as an 8 year old singing Woah Up Gentle Dobin! I have no memory of it, except that it went well, and people applauded. More recently I played a full set of my songs at Oddfellows Hall in Sheringham to a sold-out crowd. It was great and the audience were very appreciative. I felt pretty proud of myself.

Colby:  What Do You Think Is The Key To Success As A Musician?

Ervin: The key is to enjoy it. You must like what you are doing, whatever it is. If I ever stop enjoying it, I will stop. Be your own judge. Don’t look for validation from other people. That’s easy to say because everything you do in the music industry is measured and you see the figures. But you need to know that you are an artist and what you create stands on its own, no matter what other people think.

Colby: If You Wasn’t A Musician, What Job Would You Be Doing?

Ervin: Computer programmer (I was one, years ago). I’m a techy guy. It’s a great job and I would enjoy it. I like logic problems.
