Kacey Fifield stopped by for a chat!

Colby: Hello, Kacey! Congratulations on your upcoming single, “Never Reply.” Can you share with us the inspiration behind the song and what listeners can expect from it?

Kacey: “Never Reply” is a super fun, anthemic song that plays on the idea of claiming to no longer care about a person who hurt me, while making it painfully obvious that I do, in fact, care… way too much. Listeners can expect a catchy melody paired with sarcastic lyrics that I hope many can relate to! I made the song with Sam Beresford from Winnetka Bowling League and Mike Kamerman from Smallpools and we originally wanted to make a happy song, but “Never Reply” gradually evolved into a petty track that exemplifies what it’s like to be in denial of your own feelings.

Colby: You’ve had success not only as an actress but also as a singer/songwriter. How do you balance your career in both fields, and what do you find most fulfilling about each?

Kacey: I love telling stories that connect with others which is something I can do via both acting and music, so I find that balance to be pretty natural. I also have been very focused on developing as a songwriter/artist in the past few years, which has made acting take a bit of a backseat role. I love writing my own lyrics – my favorite thing ever is when a listener shares that something I wrote in a song spoke to them/made them feel less alone!

Colby: Your original music video for “HEAR ME OUT” received awards from multiple film festivals. Can you take us behind the scenes of creating that video and share any memorable experiences during the process?

Kacey: “Hear Me Out” was one of the first songs I had ever written! I was around 11 years old and really wanted to convey the message of wanting adults to take me seriously, especially since I had so many ideas to make the world a better place. The music video is meant to depict unity among the younger generation so we shot various scenes of kids standing up to injustice and advocating for what’s right. It was so much fun to shoot and very inspiring to see my vision come to life! I’ve definitely matured a lot as an artist since then, but I think my newest releases continue to represent my core belief that music should connect people.

Colby: How does your experience in the entertainment industry influence your songwriting or does it? Where do you find the inspiration for your songs?

Kacey: I mainly get my inspiration for my music from my life or my friends’ lives so, since the entertainment industry is a part of my life, it definitely does influence my songwriting in ways I probably don’t even realize. My songs “Five Seconds of Fame” and “Parasocial Interlude” are two that explicitly talk about problems in the entertainment industry—social climbing and unhealthy attachments to celebrities—that I think are relatable to people outside of the industry as well.

Colby: With a diverse range of roles in TV series such as “REACT TO THAT,” “GAME SHAKERS,” and others, how do you approach character preparation, and are there specific types of roles you are particularly drawn to as an actress?

Kacey: I love all kinds of roles; it’s always an amazing experience stepping into the shoes of another character! I tend to have a lot of fun doing comedy, specifically playing roles very different from myself. I find it fascinating to find parts of myself in a character that I never would have expected to relate to.
