Colby: What Do You Enjoy Most About Being A Musician?

Francesca: One of my favourite things about being a musician is bringing my songs to life. When I have a new song that I’ve written with just my vocals and the piano, I’m always excited to play it live with my band and see what ideas they add to it- the rest of the instrumentation in the song can completely change it’s genre and mood, so I’m always intrigued to see what direction my band takes it in.

Colby: Which Track Of Yours Means The Most To You?

Francesca: I have written a lot of tracks that all reflect very important and emotional times in my life, so it is difficult to choose. But out of all my released songs, I would say my newest one ‘Promise Land’ means the most to me. I wrote Promise Land in lockdown 2020 when I was 16. I know lockdown was a difficult time for many people, but for me the simplification of life helped me find happiness. It gave me time to slow down, appreciate the little things in life and spend a lot of time writing music and making art. I began to feel much more positive about the future overall- This is what inspired ‘Promise Land’, which is about the idea that every small change you make in your life can lead you in a new direction.

Colby: The First-Ever Gig You Played, Can You Remember It? How Was It?

Francesca: I played my first ever gig when I was 12 years old at one of my favourite venues to this day- The Drawing Room in Chesham. Considering it was my first time performing a full set, I remember being very nervous, but I was super excited to get my original songs out to a live audience. I have since grown to enjoy performing even more, and this first gig made it clear to me that I wanted to pursue music as a career.

Colby: What Do You Think Is The Key To Success As A Musician?

Francesca: I think the key is to be so resilient that you don’t let setbacks halt your determination, because you’re going to be met with a million setbacks on the way to your breakthrough, even if you’re the next Beyonce. Success is continuing to throw your passion into the music you write, and continuing to put yourself out there consistently, even if progress is slow and you doubt yourself at times.

Colby: If You Wasn’t A Musician, What Job Would You Be Doing?

Francesca: If I weren’t a musician I’d like to think I’d be doing something else creative. I am a passionate artist, particularly for oil painting- so I would have loved to go down this path (yes an even more unstable career choice than being a singer!). Or maybe fashion.. or interior design. I’m also hugely into nutrition, fitness and the gym- so maybe something related to this, like a personal trainer. But if I wasn’t a musician I think I’d find it impossible to decide what career I wanted to go into.
